The Grand Jury of 3M-CII YICA 2020 is as vibrant and eclectic as the entries themselves. This vibrance sets a firm foundation of what to expect from this year’s YICA – a new ray of impact and freedom in a time of staunch restraint. Read below to know more about this year’s jury members –
Karan Nigam, Product Marketing Group Lead, Microsoft Teams
Karan is a technology product marketer who is passionate about solving tough business problems. He has worked on 3 different continents and is optimistic about the role of technology in shaping the world around us. Karan has led product management, GTM, and lifecycle management for hardware & software products over the years. Some of the biggest technology companies in the world he has worked with are Microsoft, Nokia, and IBM. These companies have had a profound impact on personal possibilities and our view of the world. He is currently working with the “Microsoft Teams” group that’s modernizing team collaboration & championing new ways of working.
Bhargavi S. Rao, Centre for Financial Accountability
Bhargavi S. Rao works at the intersections of community action with law, policy, planning, and governance. She currently works as Deputy Director, Centre for Financial Accountability and as a trustee at ESG, advises many legal and regulatory interventions and research. She has 25 years of experience across research, advocacy, campaign, and teaching on a variety of human rights, governance, and people-centered efforts in areas of environmental and social justice. She has worked with the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, Environment Support Group (ESG), the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, and the Indian Institute of Science.
Imrana Khera, Innovation and Partnership – Mumbai Lead, USAID / India
Imrana coordinates with USAID/Afghanistan to manage the annual trade and investment show, Passage to Prosperity, which focuses on strengthening business relationships between Afghanistan and India. Based on its success, smaller shows in Milan, Italy, and Almaty, Kazakhstan have taken place in 2019. Imrana also provides support to the Innovation & Partnership office and USAID/India as a whole, including management of the Millennium Alliance initiative and CSR engagement. Imrana’s professional background is in program management, partnership/strategy development for U.S. and international organizations addressing issues ranging from immigrant rights, HIV, and arts and culture. Imrana holds a Bachelor’s in Government from Smith College and a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University.
Valeria Santoro, Principal Scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim
Scientist by training, passionate about medical research, delivering novel medications and improving access to healthcare for people in need, Valeria strives to be part of and contribute to an international movement driving change in existing social systems to ensure equal opportunities, women empowerment and equal access to education and healthcare.
Pratima Rao, Head of Biocon Foundation
Pratima Rao is the Mission Director & Head of Biocon Foundation, the CSR arm of the Company Biocon Ltd. Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Rao was heading the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, Baldwin Girls High School, Bengaluru for over two decades. Biocon Foundation has been making an enduring impact in enabling social and economic inclusion through its health, education, and community development programs, for over a decade. Ms. Pratima Rao is a well-known educationist, an award-winning teacher, and an author who is committed to quality education.
Usha BN, Expert in Gender Studies
Usha BN has worked in the development sector for over 18 years. This includes eight years of work with urban poor and rural youth on issues of marginalization and a decade at a women’s rights organization on issues of gender, rights, and law with rural women in Karnataka. Her core expertise is in the area of gender training, research, advocacy, and documentation on issues of gender, law, rights &violence against women. She is presently working as Assistant Professor at Jain College, Centre for Graduation Studies, and pursuing her Ph.D. in English literature at Jain University.
Nirmita Chandrashekar, SELCO
Nirmita Chandrashekar is an architect who works towards solving systems-based issues in how we live, work, and engage as a community. Nirmita graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from RV School of Architecture in Bengaluru and has worked in commercial architecture for 4 years. She is currently the Program Manager of Built Environment programme in SELCO Foundation since 2017.
Isabela Carvalho, Ashoka
sabela Carvalho is a Product Lead and Senior Project Manager for Ashoka, a global organization that identifies and supports the world’s most leading social entrepreneurs and changemakers. In her career, she has led integration and advocacy for the United Nations; managed programs for WINGS, a membership organization that promotes philanthropy infrastructure; and implemented a Fellowship program for Yunus&Youth, a social business supported by Muhammad Yunus, connecting young social entrepreneurs with mentors from the corporate sector. Isabela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (Brazil) and a Master’s degree in Communications and Development (Spain). Through her experiences, she has developed strong multi-sector program management and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a keen passion for social innovation and social justice.
