India has been a witness to alarmingly high cases of sexual abuse. What’s disquieting is the fact that data in a Livemint report shows that 99.1% of the cases go unreported as most victims share a common fear of shame and being shunned by society. In fact, a majority of them are unaware of the counseling and support systems available under these circumstances. Zariya, a social startup identified this gap and established a system to help sexual abuse survivors get help in a safe manner. Started by Stanford University graduate Sahar Khan, Zariya developed an online system that ensures an extremely smooth and simple process through which the survivor can seek help and immediately get in touch with a nearby expert over call or email for free. Zariya offers access to legal and counselling services and a pool of psychological experts who can also advise on how to approach a medical examination.
